As part of IGN India’s VFX Revolution series, we have seen how the Indian film industry transformed with the use of visual effects in blockbusters like the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Ra.One and the S.S. Rajamouli-directed RRR.
The series sheds light on how visual effects continue to break new ground in India cinema, with more projects employing the use of VFX to enhance the storytelling. In the most recent episode, we turn the clocks back to last year, with India’s biggest VFX production, Brahmastra.
India’s VFX Revolution Episode 3 focuses on Brahmastra, details
Directed by Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani director Ayan Mukerji, Brahmastra began as the first part of a planned trilogy. Part One – Shiva, which released last year, featured Ranbir Kapoor as the protagonist alongside Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shah Rukh Khan, and more.
In the episode, IGN India chatted with DNEG VFX Supervisor Jaykar Arudra and ReDefine Creative Director Viral Thakkar, who worked on the visual effects for Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva.
The episode delves deep into how the duo brough Mukerji’s early concepts and designs for the film to life. We also highlight how the VFX team designed Shiva’s magical fiery powers, which was the film’s crux.
Along with that, there’s also talks about the powers of other characters in the film, including Shah Rukh Khan and his cameo as Mohan Bhargav and the Vanarastra. There’s also a deeper look into Brahmastra’s various stunt sequences, such as the one in the temple and the final climactic battle between Shiva and Junoon and her army.
