After a successful run at the box office with Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron and his franchise will return late next year, with the third instalment in the series.
At the moment, Cameron has yet to divulge the name for the threequel. However, he has shared some interesting details about the upcoming movie, which will feature a new fire based Na’Vi tribe, and more.
The Titanic director had earlier revealed that the threequel was shot alongside Avatar: The Way of Water. When the latter completed filming, Cameron had claimed that Avatar 3 was almost finished as well. “We’ve got about 10% left to go,” said Cameron in an interview nearly 2.5 years ago. “We’re 100% complete on Avatar 2, and we’re sort of 95% complete on Avatar 3.”
However, Neytiri actress Zoe Saldana recently revealed some rather interesting details that contradicts Cameron’s statements. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 95th annual Academy Awards, the actress shared that she will be shooting for Avatar 3 this summer. “We’re going to go back this summer and finish it up,” stated Saldana.
Furthermore, the actress also mentioned that filming of Avatar 3 was about 70% done, compared to Cameron’s claims of the film’s shooting being almost done. With the film’s VFX work already underway, it seems like Cameron will also be shooting new scenes that will be worked on by visual effects studios later on.
Avatar 3 is scheduled to release in theatres on December 20, 2024.
