He wrote about these experiences in two books – Courting Destiny and My Second Innings. All I can say is that this is an immense loss for all of us.”

The death toll from a suspected suicide bomb that ripped through a mosque in Peshawar, northwestern Pakistan, rose to at least 100 on Tuesday, marking one of the deadliest attacks in the country in years as it faces what one analyst described as “a national security crisis,” reported CNN. Muhammad Asim Khan, spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital in the city, said at least 100 people had died following Monday’s blast at the mosque in a police compound. A police official who survived the explosion, Nasarullah Khan, said he remembered seeing “a huge burst of flames” before coming surrounded by a plume of black dust. Khan said his foot broke in the blast and he was stuck in the rubble for three hours. “The ceiling fell in… the space in between the ceiling and wall is where I managed to survive,” he said. Meanwhile, hope was fading in the search for survivors as rescue workers sifted through the rubble of the mosque that was all but destroyed Monday, when worshipers – mainly law enforcement officials – had gathered for evening prayers.

Patiala House Court on January 31 granted bail to Shankar Mishra, accused of allegedly urinating on a woman on board an Air India flight from New York to New Delhi on November 26 last year. He was arrested by the Delhi Police on January 6. Mishra was arrested by the Delhi Police on January 6. The development comes a day after Delhi court reserved its order on Mishra’s bail application. Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu on Tuesday was awarded life imprisonment by Gandhinagar Sessions court for raping a minor in 2013. On Monday, a court in Gandhinagar convicted Asaram Bapu, more than nine years after a former disciple of the godman lodged the case. As per the FIR (First Information Report) registered at Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad on October 6, 2013, against Asaram Bapu and six others, the self-styled godman had raped the woman disciple, who hailed from Surat, on several occasions from 2001 to 2006 when she was living at his ashram at Motera near Ahmedabad before she managed to escape.

Inflation in India is expected to come down from 6.8 per cent in the current fiscal year ending March 31 to 5 per cent the next fiscal, and then drop further to 4 per cent in 2024, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Tuesday. According to the World Economic Outlook update released by the IMF on Tuesday, about 84 per cent of countries are expected to have lower headline (consumer price index) inflation in 2023 than in 2022. Global inflation is set to fall from 8.8 per cent in 2022 (annual average) to 6.6 per cent in 2023 and 4.3 per cent in 2024 — above pre-pandemic (201719) levels of about 3.5 per cent, it said.
