AMD has launched the Ryzen 7020 series and Athlon 7020 series of processors in India. Within the former, there is AMD Ryzen 5 7520U and Ryzen 3 7320U. As for the Athlon brand, the newcomer is Athlon Gold 7220U. These are affordable everyday mobile CPUs meant for office work and regular home use. They are manufactured on TSMC’s 6nm process and come with Zen 2 CPU architecture and RDNA 2-based graphics. AMD punctuates “best in class” performance along with power efficiency.
AMD Ryzen 7020 and Athlon 7020 processors
The lower of the two Ryzen 7020 processors, viz. AMD Ryzen 3 7320U (4GB RAM) boasts 58% snappier multitasking and 31% improved application load times than Intel dual-core Core i3-1115G4 CPU (with 8GB RAM).
That’s a bold claim and it manages the same with this configuration: 4 cores and 8 threads, with 2.4 GHz base frequency, 4.1 GHz boost clock speed, 2MB L2 + 4MB L3 cache, Radeon 610M GPU, up to 32 GB 64-bit dual-channel LPDDR5 RAM, and 15W TDP.
There is also the more powerful Ryzen 5 7520U CPU with the key difference being a faster 2.8 GHz base clock speed and 4.3 GHz max frequency.
Besides the two, AMD Athlon 7020 (or AMD Athlon Gold 7220U) offers 2 cores, and 4 threads, with 2.4GHz base frequency, 3.7 GHz boost clock speed, 5MB of shared L2/L3 cache, and Radeon 610M GPU.
Both the new Ryzen and Athlon processors are said to give 12 hours’ worth of runtime. You get fast charging support. Among other things, the two mobile CPUs come armed with the Microsoft Pluton security processor and other security features of Windows 11, Modern Standy, and the wake-on-voice feature.
