Playing in a domestic T20 match for Central Districts against Auckland, Young belted the first five balls of the seventh over for six at Eden Park Outer Oval on Saturday.

The top-order batter, who was facing Aces spinner Louis Delport, initially looked to have a perfect six-from-six when he pulled the final delivery of the over into the leg side.

But it wasn’t quite to be, the ball coming up short as it was caught on the square-leg boundary by Auckland fielder Danru Ferns.

It’s believed only around 10 players have hit ever six sixes in an over at either international or domestic level.

There is already a New Zealander on that list, with Canterbury’s Leo Carter managing the feat in a T20 match against Northern Districts in early 2020.

While Young missed out on the accomplishment, he still made the key contribution as the Stags claimed a 29-run win via the DLS method.

He cracked 67 off only 27 balls, finishing with seven sixes and four fours.

Replying to the Aces 191-8, the visitors were 108-2 from just 9.2 overs when the rain arrived in Auckland.

The home team’s total was built around a 33-ball half century to Cole Briggs, 39 off only 19 balls from William O’Donnell and 32 runs each from Ben Horne and Sean Solia.

Earlier at the same venue, Auckland teenager Prue Catton hit her first domestic T20 half century to guide the Hearts to a comfortable seven wicket win over the winless Central Hinds.
