The announcement that every fan has been waiting for has finally arrived. CD Projekt Red has announced through a post on Twitter that a Witcher remake is being worked, and the exciting part is that it is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. The game is being developed in collaboration with Polish studio, Fool’s Theory, along with veteran Witcher series Staff. The project has been codenamed, ‘Canis Majoris’ and is in very early stages of development, it might take some time before we hear anything about this project in detail.
We’re thrilled to reveal that, together with @Fools_Theory, we’re working on remaking The Witcher using Unreal Engine 5 (codename: Canis Majoris)!
We want to do this right, so please be patient — it’s gonna be a while until we can share more details.

Here’s what Adam Badowski, Head of Studio at CD Projekt Red, had to say about the Witcher Remake:
“The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger.”
Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”
In other news, it seems Sony is trying to expand their portfolio of acquisitions by adding CD Projekt Red to the list. Parvum Principi discussed a rumour wherein PlayStation had approached CD Projekt Red for an acquisition. To which Rythian, a popular gaming industry analyst, has replied that this is not a rumour and Sony have already approached the studio for acquisition multiple times. He added, CD Projekt Red has announced their future projects to boost their stock before acquisition.
It’s not a rumor, Sony has approached CD Projekt multiple times. Hence why CD did that entire thing with announcing several The Witcher games alongside new Cyberpunk, it’s to boost their stock before acquisition. https://t.co/FBzNdJEfqU

Lastly, Beau DeMayo, the writer for Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf Anime, stated that some Witcher writers “actively disliked the books and games”. Thereafter, when he became the showrunner for X-Men 97, his number one rule became “you had to be a fan” and “You have to respect the work before you’re allowed to add to its legacy”.
