Valve has released a major update for its Steam mobile app that completely overhauls its design and adds new features including remote downloads.
Valve shared the update’s features in a blog post and on Twitter (below), showing off the new ability to order remote downloads from the app, meaning users can be out of the house and still get games and updates ready for when they return.
Some of its new security features were also shown off, such as refreshed two-factor authentication, QR code sign-in, and sign-in authorisation. Valve has upgraded two-factor authentication through the Steam app so that it shows any attempted sign-ins with an approximate geolocation, ready to be approved or denied.

The app can also be used to manage which devices are currently signed into the user’s Steam account, including how recently it’s been used, and access can be revoked if needed.
For more everyday use, users can essentially use the app as they would Steam on a PC by browsing games, accessing their library, game information, and so on. Notifications can also be enabled so users receive alerts when their wish-listed games go on sale.
Valve has also promised to bring some of these features to Steam Deck, including QR code sign in, new notification types, and the Authorised Devices list. Its handheld PC was released in February and has been pretty popular ever since, only recently becoming available to buy without ordering ahead of time.
