The independent football simulation UFL has been delayed until next year as the developers need more time to finalize the development process and polish the game.
According to an official development update video shared by Strikerz Inc CEO Eugene Nashilov, UFL is now approximately 80% ready to launch, and the developers need the extra time to polish the game further. While the video does share some new footage from the gameplay as well as the development process, we will get more information on UFL and its exact release date in December 2022.
Also, the CEO revealed that there will be an event in the near future where fans will be able to play the game before its official launch to provide further feedback for the developers.
UFL is supposed to be a free-to-play football simulation. It is hard to think of it as a huge competitor to FIFA (EA Sports FC) and eFootball at the moment as UFL is an independent game and doesn’t feature a full license from big clubs in Europe, but the game has already reached an agreement with multiple clubs from Europe to feature in the game with full license, which includes Westham United, Sporting CP, Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Mönchengladbach, AS Monaco, Besiktas, Celtic, and Rangers.
Also, the game will feature a number of famous football players as UFL ambassadors, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelo Lukaku, Roberto Firmino, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
One of the biggest focuses of the developers in UFL is to bring a free-to-play and fair-to-play experience, where you can get better in the game by simply spending more money. Currently, the Ultimate Team mode in FIFA is somehow pay-to-win, as you can spend real-world money to get elite players for your team and rank up faster than those who don’t spend anything on it.
If the developers manage to deliver satisfying gameplay with a skill-based progression system, UFL could definitely become a successful football game in the future even without full licensing.
UFL is being developed based on Unreal Engine 4, and while the developer has not specified the target platforms, we know that it will be coming to consoles and PC.
