Swiggy may soon fly food to your balcony using drones – Times of India

Food tech startup Swiggy has announced that it’s drone delivery partner ANRA Technologies has got final clearances from Ministry of Defense (MoD), Directorate General of Aviation (DGCA) and Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) to start testing drones to deliver food. ANRA Technologies has received permits for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations in India.
This comes after Skye AirMobility– Dunzo’s drone partner– got clearances for drone delivery of medicines in Telangana.
ANRA’s flight team launched its first sortie on June 16, 2021. “For the next several weeks, the flight team will conduct BVLOS food and medical package deliveries in the Etah and Rupnagar districts,” said the company in a statement to the media.
ANRA is engaged in two projects of drone deliveries. One consortium consists of ANRA, along with their partners Swiggy, renowned Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, and BetterDrones, a drone service provider which will focus on food delivery. The second consortium includes ANRA and Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, and will focus on medical deliveries.
“We are excited about the potential that Drones offer and look forward to the trials on BVLOS operations for the use case of food delivery. Through our association with ANRA, we aim to put the long-range proficiencies of drone technology to best use and accomplish some ground-breaking trials” said Shilpa Gnaneshwar, principal program manager, Swiggy.
In the first test flight, ANRA’s team showcased how food packages can be easily delivered using medium drones. Food packages mostly tend to weigh less than 1 KG and it is can be easily picked up by medium-sized drones that have a load capacity of 3 KG to 4 KG.
