UP govt revises for engg, technical courses for private institutions – Times of India

Accordingly, the standard tuition fee set for undergraduate engineering courses in private colleges offering degree is Rs 55,000, and those offering diploma in engineering is Rs 30,150. However, this is not a cap on the tuition fee to be charged by the institutions, clarified the admission and fee regulatory committee (AFRC) of the technical education department.

Currently, the fee for engineering courses in a private college varies from Rs 45,000 to Rs 1.65 lakh. There are more than 750 private colleges offering technical education in UP.
AFRC secretary Rajesh Chandra said institutes who disagree with the revised fee slab have been asked to submit a justifiable proposal along with their expenditure details latest till July 23. “Fee of such institutions will be decided post assessment by the committee,” Chandra said.

Institutions that agree with the revised fee slab will also have to submit their consent letters to the department. In cases where an institution does not provide a consent letter (neither agreeing nor disagreeing), it will be assumed that they adhere to the standard fee fixation.

Officials said the revision was done considering the fact that no fee was hiked for the last two years owing to Covid-19 pandemic. The last fee revision came in 2017-18. “Both institutions and parents are facing difficulties. We have seen a crisis time, and are trying to mitigate the loss,” said an official.

However, the new fee slabs which are expected to be higher than the existing fee, did not go well with teachers. “With admissions falling every year, technical institutions are struggling to fill seats. With the hike after revision of fee, the numbers will drop significantly,” said a senior technical education faculty.
