Delhi: Resident doctors call off strike, to meet on January 6NEW DELHI: The resident doctors called off their strike on Friday and resumed work after the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) announced the decision.

According to FORDA, they held a series of meetings with Delhi Police officials on Thursday, who highlighted that they had the highest regard for doctors. “They are well aware of the hardships of doctors and willing to cooperate with the medical fraternity on any issue at any time. They also assured that the complaint against resident doctors will be taken care of as per the legal procedures,” FORDA said.

Its president, Dr Manish, told TOI that police would withdraw the FIR registered against some protesting doctors at ITO.

A virtual meeting of FORDA members with all resident doctors associations’ (RDA) representatives was convened on Thursday evening and all points of concern were discussed. “It was unanimously decided to call off the agitation, considering various factors, including patient care,” FORDA said. A national meeting with all RDA representatives will be convened by FORDA on January 6.

The resident doctors’ protest for expediting NEET-PG counselling 2021 completed 14 days on Thursday. “Following a meeting of FORDA representatives with the Union health minister on December 29, the minister agreed upon that the ministry would submit the committee report to the Supreme Court before January 6 and publish the NEET-PG 2021 counselling schedule following the court hearing on that day,” doctors claimed.

According to FORDA, the ministry regretted the “violence” by Delhi Police against resident doctors who were protesting peacefully on December 27. “We were assured that no punitive or disciplinary action will be taken by the authorities against any resident doctor who took part in the agitation,” FORDA claimed. But the strike wasn’t immediately called off as FORDA was reportedly not satisfied with the official announcement.
