MUMBAI: Mumbai’s poor show in various age group tournaments (men & women) this season has prompted Mumbai Cricket Association treasurer Jagdish Achrekar to request MCA president Vijay Patil for an urgent meeting of the Apex Council (AC) to discuss the issue.
On Tuesday, Mumbai, who were the defending champions of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, suffered a stunning 18-run defeat to Pondicherry in their final league game at at Thiruvananthapuram — their fourth loss in five games, while winning just one match. With only four points in five games, they thus finished last in Elite Group B and crashed out at the league stage of the tournament.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy debacle completed a disastrous season for Mumbai in the white-ball format — they had also exited at the group stage in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
In fact, this was the second consecutive season when they failed to make the knockouts in the Mushtaq Ali.
In an email (a copy is with TOI) to Patil, Achrekar has written: “Dear president sir, I request you to call an urgent Apex Council meeting to discuss the performances of our teams. The discussion during the meeting and our concerns may be shared with the Cricket Improvement Committee members, selectors and the coaches. Please treat my mail as requisition for the same and if it is backed by the required number of members, I request you to call an urgent meeting at the earliest, regards.”
