HIGHLIGHTS
- Avesh Khan was the breakout star for Delhi Capitals in the IPL
- He took 24 wickets, finishing as the season’s second highest wicket taker
- India are looking to complete a 3-0 sweep in the series
India can rest Bhuvneshwar Kumar and give Avesh Khan a chance in Kolkata during the third T20I against New Zealand as the Eden Gardens pitch will suit the latter, former batsman Gautam Gambhir has said. India have already sealed win in the three-match series and are looking to do a clean sweep on New Zealand.
“From a bowling point of view they can actually rest Bhuvneshwar Kumar and look at Avesh Khan. It will suit him especially the wicket in Kolkata, it’s got pace and bounce,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.
Avesh, 24, was the breakout star for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He took 24 wickets, finishing as the season’s second-highest wicket taker behind Harshal Patel, who won the player of the match award on international debut in the second T20I.
“So I would definitely want to see Avesh playing that game. He has got pace and you got to test him on the international stage when you got the series in your bag. So that is one change they can look towards,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir said that while India cannot relax in the match, they can still experiment with the team and express themselves a bit more at the Eden Gardens now that they have sealed a series win. “You still have to be ruthless and try to wrap up the series 3-0. But no point putting pressure on yourself,” he added.
