As many as 444 deaths had occurred at home and 127 during the transit from home to the hospital. On the first day of the hospitalization 691 deaths had occurred and 533 deaths occurred within three days of the hospitalization.
Thrissur recorded the highest number of deaths at home — 149 — followed by 61 deaths in Kollam, 54 in Palakkad and 45 in Ernakulam.
In Thrissur, 315 deaths had occurred due to the delay in hospitalization followed by Palakkad with 250 deaths. In Kollam 175 deaths, Ernakulam 165, Kozhikdoe 163 and Malappuram 161 deaths have occurred due to the delay in admissions to the hospitals.
Hypertension, diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease are the three top comorbidities which have been cited as the reasons behind the Covid deaths in the state. Of the total deaths, 26.57% had diabetes mellitus, 26.29% had hypertension and 10.92% had coronary artery disease.
Five high-risk districts
The report also pointed out that the average test positivity rate in the last three days was above 20% in five districts and seven districts had above 15%. Thrissur has the highest TPR — 22.6%, followed by Malappuram (22.3%), Palakkad (21.7%), Kozhikode (21.4%) and Wayanad (21.3%).
In Kannur, it was 18.6%, Kollam (18.4%), Idukki (18.1%), Kottayam (18%), Alappuzha (18%), Pathanamthitta (17.3%), Ernakulam (17.1%), Thiruvananthapuram (13.4%) and Kasaragod (10.8%).
In the last seven days, the cases have increased from 17,106 cases in a day to 32,801 cases per day. The review meeting observed that this increase is the post-Onam surge and the cases will be increased up to 40,000 per day in September.
The review meet also observed that there is an increase in the number of active cases in all the districts. In three days (Aug 25 to 27), there is a 30.10% increase in the active cases in Kottayam and 29.07% increase of active cases in Thrissur.
Ernakukam (23.09%), Pathanamthitta (21.81%), Alappuzha (18.92%) and Thiruvananthapuram (18.14%) have all witnessed rise in number of active cases.
Good progress in Covid vaccination
As per the report, Ernakulam and Wayanad have achieved 100% vaccination among the people above 60 years of age. Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Palakkad and Kottayam have achieved 99% vaccination. Rest of the districts have covered 93% of the people above 60 years of age.
In the people above 45 years of age, Wayanad has 100% coverage, followed by Kasaragod (98%), Pathanamthitta (97%), Ernakulam (96%), Kozhikode and Idukki (94%) and Thiruvananthapuram (90%).
