8BitDo, the game accessory maker known for its amazing third-party wireless controllers, announced its first-ever mechanical keyboard with a design inspired by Nintendo’s 8-bit home gaming consoles.
The 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard is a tenkeyless (TKL) with two different designs: N Edition, which is inspired by the Nintendo Entertainment System, and Fami edition, inspired by the Famicon. It features wired USB and 2.4g wireless Bluetooth, mappable Super Buttons, and an independent control panel.
The Retro Mechanical Keyboard supports 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software, allowing you to keymap the keyboard, features a hot-swappable PCB, and is compatible with Windows and Android devices. 8BitDo notes that the keyboard includes a 2000mAh Li-on battery, claiming that the keyboard can last for 200 hours on a full charge and that it only takes 4 hours to charge the device fully.
8BitDo is the latest company to enter the mechanical keyboard market. Earlier this year, smartphone maker OnePlus announced it was making its first mechanical keyboard.
8BitDo will begin selling both versions of its Retro Mechanical Keyboard starting today and costing $99 each. With shipping slated to begin on August 10.
