The most recent addition to the Barbie universe is a little bit different from its predecessors, bringing a much more real and much less cartooney story to the big screen. Starring incredible actors like Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, Barbie (2023) has captured the hearts of audiences across the globe.

Compared to the other highly anticipated feature film that was released alongside it, Oppenheimer, Barbie doesn’t have a very long runtime, sitting at about two hours. Considered a cult classic, Legally Blond is a story about a stereotypical blond girl who joins Harward Law School to get back at her ex-boyfriend for breaking up with her. It’s directed by Robert Luketic and deserves its spot.

Greta Gerwig is an incredible director, rising from the bottom with her own studio that she founded with her husband. Little Women is one of her best movies, even getting a nomination for best picture.

It focuses a lot on themes of the freedom of women, reflecting the director’s own thoughts on the matter without getting too political. Rango is one of the greats in animated movies. Starring Johnny Depp, the movie centers around a lost chameleon finding his way in the lawless desert of Los Angeles and his adventures as the sheriff of an old western town inhabited by anthropomorphic animals that are, inexplicably, the same size as him.

The movie has the same kind of wonder as Barbie, though the tone and visual style are very different. It takes the classic shoot-em-up Western genre and transforms it, giving it a unique flavor and interesting identity of its own.

Hailing from Ryan Gosling’s depression era, Crazy, Stupid, Love brings a breath of fresh air to his acting career, having Ryan take on the role of a charming playboy who expresses his emotions. Crazy Stupid Love has Ryan’s character interacting with Steve Carell, a comedy legend.

Directed by the brilliant mind of Damien Chazelle, the director of Whiplash (another great film focusing on music), La La Land uses all the musical and acting talent Ryan Gosling has at his disposal and elevates it to another level. The movie has some very well-shot scenes, and the chemistry between the two leads, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, is absolutely phenomenal.
