20 English-medium schools shut down in Nashik district – Times of India

NASHIK: A total of 20 private English-medium schools across Nashik district have shut down, mainly due to the lack of admissions, said Nashik Zilla Parishad and Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) education authorities.

The education officers said that a section of private schools that do not receive any aid from the government in any case have informed the education department about the closure this year.

Zilla Parishad primary education officer Rajeev Mhaskar said that the schools have notified the department about their inability to conduct the sessions this year, given they did not have students for the last two years.
“As of now, these schools have closed as per their own information. A report would be sent to the state government accordingly. If they get children this year, they may be allowed to function next year, but if they do not, then they will have to apply for renewal of permission the following year with the state government,” Mhaskar told TOI.

The schools have been facing problems related to the admissions and recovery of the fees from the children – especially during the Covid pandemic.

“The schools have not put up any reason officially for the closure other than lack of admissions and funds to run the schools,” Sunita Dhangar, the education department head of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), said.

A director of one such school said that they lacked funds because the parents of the children did not clear their dues during the last two years.

“Our school is four years old, and we do not have strong financial back up as a result of which due to lack of clearing of minimum dues, we are unable to carry ahead,” the director said.

The directors and principals of the schools said that they were willing to restart the schools and hoped that they get more admissions for the year 2022-23.

“We are taking measures to see if we get children for the forthcoming academic year. If that happens, we will be able to revive the schools and we will inform the state government accordingly,” they said.

The highest number of schools closing down are in Niphad (six), followed by three in Nashik city, two each in Malegaon, Kalwan, Sinnar, Surgana, Yeola and one school in Balgan taluka.
