2-alarm fire in the Columbia City neighborhood – Fire Line

Seattle — This morning at 6:12 a.m., the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls reporting a fire in a three-story commercial building at the 4200 block of Rainier Ave. S. Engine 30 was the first unit on scene and confirmed flames showing from the rear side of the building. Engines 6 and 28 along with Ladders 3 and 12 arrived soon after. The crews worked together to quickly knock down the exterior portion of the fire, then made their way inside to check for extension.

The incident was upgraded to a 2-alarm fire response when firefighters reported heavy smoke and high heat on the second floor. By 6:40 a.m., crews were able to get the fire under control and complete a primary search of the entire building to confirm no one was found inside. The fire was extinguished seven minutes later, and firefighters were able to complete a more thorough secondary search confirming the building was all clear.

The Seattle Fire Department began reducing the response to a few units by 7 a.m. Though a few crews will remain on scene through today to monitor for flare ups.

No injuries were reported, and the incident is under investigation.

Updated June 2: Investigators ruled the cause of the fire as undetermined. Estimated loss is $125,000.
