In a list where the cars have heavy hand toward their aesthetic qualities, the Alfsud may be a bit misplaced. Yet it is very relevant to the Alfa Romeo brand just as the Beetle is to Volkswagen. The diminutive car’s little boxer was a mere 1.3-liter affair that boasted of 62 horsepower. Early models were highly prone to rust and a lot of that blame was placed on low-quality steel being used without much of any rustproofing. Furthermore, Classic and Sports Car says government ownership of Alfa at the time led manufacturing of the new car to be done in the south of Italy to boost labor in the region, even though it had little history of auto manufacturing. Rustproofing improved in later models and power got bumped to 75 horsepower.

All things considered, it remains an interesting car and despite being a basic economy car, it possesses that unmistakable Alfa flair. The Alfasud remains an affordable classic Alfa in Europe where one can be had for well under $10,000.
