In 2022, the anime industry experienced a whirlwind of big hits. Anime is also more popular than ever now, with many new shows coming out that attracted audiences from all around the world. However, in its home country of Japan, which anime franchises made the most profit for its creators?
According to a new report from Oricon (thanks, Comicbook), some of the most lucrative IPs of the year were Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, Tokyo Revengers, Spy x Family, Love Live, My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Arashi, Detective Conan, and Osomatsu-kun.
Jujutsu Kaisen, which took the top spot on the list, continued to bring in significant profits through its Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film and manga. It’s no surprise to see One Piece in second place, as the series’ latest film was a huge hit.
Tokyo Revengers, which ended its manga earlier in the year, took the third spot on the list and is now gearing up for its second season. Spy x Family, which placed fourth, has already been approved for a second season and a film.
Love Live, known for its strong popularity in Japan, placed fifth on the list. My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer came in sixth and seventh place, respectively, while Arashi and Detective Conan, a classic shōnen series, stood in eighth and ninth place. Osomatsu-kun rounded out the list at the tenth place.
