You’d see me at a DU fest soon: Armaan Malik

In Delhi, the fan love is way more than any other place I have been to,” says singer-songwriter Armaan Malik, who took to the stage last evening at Central Park in Connaught Place. The live performance was part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which celebrated its one-year anniversary.

“I performed in Delhi after a very long time,” says Malik, adding, “Armaanians (his community of fans) came out in big numbers as they are always excited to watch me live. Mujhe bhi bahut mazaa aata hai unke liye gaane mein. And when in Delhi, I love singing Punjabi numbers. The fans are very musical here,” says the 26-year-old, who is known for songs such as Bol Do Na Zara (Azhar, 2016) and Pehla Pyar (Kabir Singh, 2019).

Getting back to the live music scene after two years of Covid-19 restrictions has surely been fulfilling for him. “Things are now back with two times the business. I’m navigating it in whatever ways possible. You’re going to be seeing and hearing me in many ways this year, and I’m excited for it! This year has been phenomenal already,” shares Malik, who has become the first Indian singer to perform at the Grammys Global Spin.

However, where he eagerly wishes to perform is the Delhi college scene! “A lot of college shows are starting now, so hopefully, you would see me at one of the Delhi University (DU) fests very soon,” the Echo singer says, without sharing any more details.

Point out how the Capital is known for his many eccentric fans, and he recalls an anecdote: “I’ve had crazy moments with fans, especially in Delhi. Once, I had used a napkin when I was perspiring, and kept it on the stage somewhere. Later, a fan posted (online) that they got it!”

As the conversation shifts to Dilli ka khana, Malik, a self-confessed “chhole bhature fan”, says that he often does not get a chance to enjoy the city’s many delicacies. “I would love to go [to Delhi’s popular food joints]. But kya hota hai na ki jab main kisi public place mein jata hun toh khana kam hota hai aur logon ke saath pictures zyada hoti hain. So I’m never able to relax and eat good food (chuckles)… I’ve heard so much about Dilli ka khana, but I have to make sure that I eat at the right place,” he concludes.
