Yellowstone 1923 Season 2 Delayed ‘Indefinitely’ Due to Writers Strike

The second season of Yellowstone prequel, Yellowstone 1923 is delayed “indefinitely”.

According to NBC Montana, production of the upcoming Season 2, which was due to restart in Butte, Montana, has ceased due to the ongoing WGA Writers Strike.

“Civic Center manager Bill Melvin says he has been informed by the production that the delay is due to the ongoing Writers Guild Of America strike, which began on May 2 and does not appear to be nearing a resolution,” they confirmed.

Although production was due to restart on Monday, June 19, it looks as though the production company has requested a 10-day extension. This has already been approved, however there could be further extensions if the WGA strike continues.

This could have a big impact on the show’s budget, as it currently pays Butte-Silver Bow $75,000 per month to use the Civic Center for filming. As it stands, the Civic Center is currently set up and ready for filming upon their return. However, there could be further complications down the road. The Screen Actors Guild recently voted to authorize a strike if a fair deal isn’t reached by June 30.

Yellowstone 1923 tells the story of an earlier generation of the Dutton family way back in 1923, with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton. The series explores the early 20th century through the Dutton family, with the looming Great Depression and the end of prohibition as a backdrop to the Dutton family drama.

IGN’s review of Yellowstone 1923 gave it 8/10 and said: “Longtime Yellowstone fans will enjoy the ways the latest prequel enriches the mothership, but 1923 offers enough to welcome in new viewers who may be moved to check it out due to the impressive cast.”
