Coastal Carolina real estate appraiser and fashionista, Kay Van Hoesen, was flummoxed by flip flops. “In the South, we live in them,” she said. “Does this kind of comfort have to look like we’re wearing Grandpa’s old tires?” Thus, her new business, Flipping Bling, was born.

She did not want to bring Flipping Bling just to the beach, but also to restaurants, picnics, clubs, weddings, churches, parties, and boats. From boardwalks to business meetings, her creations turn one pair of flip flops into footwear for all occasions.

Take a pair of flip flops. Make a few twists of the patent-pending hook-and-loop attacher to the thong part of any flip flops. Add detachable bejeweled butterflies, springtime petals, denim fringes, rainbow hearts, even a jungle themed leopard bling bow. Then, one pair of flip flops goes from a dawn dog walk to an elegant evening event. A constant creative, Van Hoesen will soon unveil new designs for Memorial Day and Independence Day.

A businesswoman at heart, Van Hoesen sourced her supplies from world markets to find the highest quality for the lowest prices. Her garage, converted to a distribution center, is filled with bling and mailing supplies. Launched just one month ago, orders have already been shipped all across the country from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific Northwest.

“This is not my first rodeo,” said Van Hoesen. “I’ve owned a business for decades. But this was completely out of my wheelhouse and took me several years to figure out. Every day is a new adventure, and it’s fun!”
