Windows 11’s first update brings more ‘bad news’ for these laptop users – Times of India

Microsoft recently rolled out the first update of Windows 11 since its launch to fix bugs that were reported by the users. This was the first update that the production, Beta and Release Preview users of Windows 11 received at the same time. Although the update was meant to help out the user, instead it further worsened it. Last week computer processor manufacturer AMD has revealed that Windows 11 is negatively affecting its processors, which may result in reduced performance. Now, a report by TechPowerUp has said that the AMD processor powered PCs are seeing much higher latency after installing the latest Windows 11 update.
As officially revealed by AMD earlier, after installing Windows 11, measured and functional L3 cache latency on few if its processors increasing as much as three times that impacts access time of applications sensitive to memory subsystems. The performance issue is as high as 15% in certain games, but usually the impact ranges between 3% and 5%.
Another issue stated by the company was that preferred cores do not preferentially schedule threads on a processor’s fastest core after the update. This issue hampered applications sensitive to the performance of one or a few CPU threads. As per the company, the performance impact was detectable in >8-core processors above 65W TDP.
TechPowerUp notes the L3 cache latency on its AMD Ryzen 7 2700X at around 10-nanosecond and Windows 11 increased this to 17-nanosecond. Although patches for both the above mentioned AMD processor issues will be released this month only, it is expected that Microsoft will address the L3 cache issue next week.
The KB5006674 Windows 11 update released this week brings the OS build number to 22000.258. The bug fixes mentioned in the update are relatively short and it is rumoured that the company will soon fix other bugs that are being reported by users.
