WhatsApp: WhatsApp won’t delete your account but make it ‘useless’ after May 15 – Times of India

Now that the initial dust has settled over WhatsApp making it clear that no user accounts will be deleted, the instant messaging app has given some clarity. A few days ago, WhatsApp issued a statement that users who don’t accept its privacy policy will not see any deletion of their accounts. Now on its FAQ page, WhatsApp has detailed what will happen to the users who don’t accept its new privacy policy.
What will happen on May 15
WhatsApp on its FAQ page clearly states, “No one will have their accounts deleted or lose functionality of WhatsApp on May 15 because of this update.”
What happens after May 15
Users will continue to get reminders from WhatsApp to accept the new updated privacy policy. These reminders will be infrequent to begin with but soon get “persistent”. “After giving everyone time to review, we’re continuing to remind those who haven’t had the chance to do so to review and accept. After a period of several weeks, the reminder people receive will eventually become persistent,” WhatsApp states.
What happens if you still don’t accept WhatsApp privacy policy
WhatsApp will limit the functionality of the app to users. After getting persistent reminders and not accepting WhatsApp privacy policy, you won’t be able to access your chat list, but you can still answer incoming phone and video calls. “If you have notifications enabled, you can tap on them to read or respond to a message or call back a missed phone or video call,” WhatsApp notes.
What if you decide to ‘never’ accept WhatsApp privacy policy
“After a few weeks of limited functionality, you won’t be able to receive incoming calls or notifications and WhatsApp will stop sending messages and calls to your phone,” notes WhatsApp. In other words, your WhatsApp account will become completely useless.
As clearly stated, users shouldn’t as WhatsApp will not delete your account but make it so useless that either you will have no choice but to accept its terms and conditions. Otherwise, there’s always Signal and Telegram, no?
