WhatsApp users may soon get this new disappearing messages feature – Times of India

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow you to use the disappearing messages feature for multiple chats at once. As per a report by WABetaInfo, the Facebook owned platform has started to roll out a new beta update for Android smartphone users. The update brings the version of the app up to 2.22.11.11 and it comes with references to the new disappearing messages functionality.
For those who do not know, WhatsApp introduced the disappearing messages feature last year. The feature allows users to send messages that disappear after a certain period of time. At first the app only offered the option to automatically remove a disappearing message after 7 days. Later the company also added 90 days and 24 hours options for the feature.
Currently when you enable the default message timer, it only affects new individual chats but the company is now working on a new option for your existing chats. As per the screenshot shared with the report, with the spotted feature, WhatsApp will allow you to use the disappearing message feature through a new shortcut that will be visible when you select multiple chats from the list.
With this feature, you won’t have to toggle the disappearing messages feature within every chat info manually. As the feature is still in early stage of development, it is unknown when the company will roll it out to users. Apart from this, WhatsApp is also planning to expand the functionality of the multi-device feature with a new Companion mode.
The Companion mode will allow users to link their primary smartphone with a WhatsApp account on another smartphone. Switching to Companion mode will, however, log you out from your WhatsApp account on your primary device. Since the feature is currently under development, there are not many details available about how the feature is different from registering the app in another smartphone. The feature may also help users to migrate from Android to iOS smartphones.
