Keeping in view of the request from the authorities that absence of the dedicated operation theatres is causing delay in taking up surgeries on the cancer patients even after diagnosing the need, the Natco trust stated the construction of separate operation theatres about six months ago and completed the project.
“The advanced operation theatre complex will come in handy to provide early relief to the patients who require the surgeries,” said VC Nannapaneni, chairman of Natco pharmaceuticals after inaugurating the complex on Sunday. He said that they were committed to develop the Natco cancer care unit as the best cancer units in the state.
In fact, the Natco trust spent close to Rs.45 crore to construct a dedicated cancer hospital in GGH. Subsequently, the state government purchased ultra-modern equipment for the cancer care hospital by spending Rs.25 crore. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the cancer hospital in GGH in last July.
The HOD (radiology) Dr Durgaprasad said that they have been utilizing the other operation theatres in the GGH to take up surgeries on cancer patients for the past one year. He said that they have so far performed surgeries on about 206 patients in the last 12 months despite the outbreak of the covid-19. The launch of the dedicated operation theatre within the cancer hospital block would help many patients to get treatment on time.
Natco vice-president Nannapaneni Sadasiva Rao said that they were committed to provide required medicines to the cancer patients free of cost. He said that they have spared a budget of Rs.75 lakh exclusively to provide free drugs to the cancer patients. GGH superintendent Dr N Prabhavathi thanked the management of Natco for their generous support to the GGH. She said that Natco had earlier constructed pediatric ward, orthopaedic ICU, and also a sleep lab in the neurology department.
