This may be one of the worst selling premium Samsung smartphone – Times of India

When Samsung launched the S21 series of smartphones there was a wave of optimism and positivity around them. The design was praised, the cameras were lauded among other things However, six months after their launch, it seems to have all but vanished. According to a report by Phonearena, which cites analysts at Kiwoom Securities, Samsung has shipped 13.5 million units of S21 series of smartphones. The figure makes it one of the worst selling smartphones in the S-series.
Kiwoom Securities is a South Korea-based online securities trading firm and its numbers don’t make good reading for Samsung. The Galaxy S20series— last year’s flagship Samsung phones — was supposedly doing badly as it sold 17 million units in the first six months of its launch. But the numbers of S21 series are even lower compared to Galaxy S20.
According to the report, the Galaxy S10 had posted impressive numbers in its first months with Samsung having shipped 25.5 million units. The Galaxy S21 has shipped 47% less units compared to the S10.
Not that the Galaxy S20 ended up doing too well as according to the report it sold 28 million units in a year.
“As the smartphone market enters maturity, differentiators are being diluted,” Kim Ji-san, a researcher at Kium Securities was quoted as saying. “Samsung Electronics requires performance in addition to cameras, premium performance and design differentiation,” Ji-San added.
Samsung’s flagship phone strategy revolved around bi-annual launches — S-series and Note series. However, the ongoing ship shortage and other reasons mean that Samsung had to can the Note series for the year 2021. Instead the company is set to launch a couple of foldable devices at an event on August 11. Samsung said that it wants to make foldable devices mainstream.
