NEW DELHI: Tech giant Google introduced the final version of Android 12 at the company’s annual developer conference I/O 2021. The company explained the new features which will come with Android 12.
After the announcement, Google released the Android 12 public beta 1. In the coming months, Google will release beta 2 of the upcoming software version. The second beta of the update will include Android 12’s privacy dashboard and more controls for the camera and microphone.
The privacy dashboard will be accessible from the Settings menu and it offers a clear timeline view of the last 24 hours of access to the microphone, camera and location. The company said that it added this feature to the OS after user feedback. Android users wanted an insight into what data is accessed by apps. It also lets you easily revoke app permissions right from the dashboard.
Along with this, you will also notice new microphone and camera indicators placed on the top right corner of the screen. For instance, when you open the camera app, icons of both the sensors will appear on the screen. The beta 2 of Android 12 will also bring a Quick Setting, which will enable users to cut off the app access to the microphone and camera.
Lastly, the beta 2 will also notify users every time an app accesses their clipboard with a read notification.
What’s new in Android 12
Android 12 operating system will completely change the look of the Android phone with the new Material You UI design. The interface comes with new colour options, animations, tile designs and more. This means that with the latest operating system you will be able to adjust the notification shade, volume controls, lock screen and almost everything else to compliment your smartphone’s wallpaper.
Android 12 comes with a dedicated ‘One-handed’ mode that lets you use large phones easily with one hand. You will also be able to invoke the Google Assistant by long-pressing the power button.
There’s a new Privacy Dashboard that offers a single view into your permissions settings as well as what data is being accessed, how often and by which apps. It also lets you easily revoke app permissions right from the dashboard.
