The Last of Us Season 2: Bella Ramsey Teases Release Date As Alternate Season 1 Ending Revealed, and More

HBO’s The Last of Us has become one of the most talked-about TV series since its release. The small screen adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game has gained a massive fan following. However, fans may have to wait a while before they can watch the second season of the show.

According to Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie in the series, the production of The Last of Us Season 2 is expected to begin at the end of 2023 or 2024. As a result, the earliest we can expect to see the next season is at the end of 2024 or early 2025, she revealed on the Jonathon Ross show.

The Last of Us showrunners reveal alternate ending

The Last of Us co-showrunner Craig Mazin revealed that the finale’s closing moments were almost different, giving a slightly different feel to the scene.

Talking to GQ, Mazin revealed that Ellie says “okay” in the alternate ending and walks away, as Joel looks after her. The two of them would be seen walking apart, not together, down towards Jackson as the camera lingers on them before fading.

Ultimately, the showrunners went with the version that we saw in the final cut, which ends on a close-up of Ellie. This left viewers uncertain of what comes next. According to Neil Druckmann, who is also the co-creator of The Last of Us game franchise, the show’s ending is a proper one and not a cliffhanger.

The showrunners have also confirmed that The Last of Us Part II will not be condensed into a single season. The game’s events will be spread over multiple seasons instead.

In other news, a developer of the game who sneaked his wife’s name as an Easter egg in the video game franchise, has now made it on to the show as well. Former Naughty Dog designer Peter Field took to Twitter celebrating the transition of his Easter egg to live action TV.

It has also been revealed that Iron Galaxy is the studio responsible for The Last of Us Part I remake on PC. The Chicago-based video game developers have previously ported Batman: Arkham Knight and Unchartered: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
