The Kashmir Files box office day 4 collection: Film aces ‘crucial Monday’ test with ₹42.20 crore in the bank

The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, has generated ₹42.20 crore at the box office within four days of its release. The film features Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, Bhasha Sumbli, and Chinmay Mandlekar. It is based on the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s in Kashmir valley. Taking to Twitter, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “While *most films* crash/fall on the crucial Monday, #TheKashmirFiles is on a record-smashing spree… Mon is similar to Sun… #TKF is a smash-hit… On course to be a blockbuster… Fri 3.55 cr, Sat 8.50 cr, Sun 15.10 cr, Mon 15.05 cr. Total: ₹ 42.20 cr. #India biz.”

As per a BoxOfficeIndia.com report, the film is ‘being driven by North India and Gujarat/Saurashtra which are the leading contributors. It added that both multiplexes and single screens are working well in these areas.

The Hindustan Times review of the film read, “Vivek Agnihotri’s research about the tragedy shows in every scene in the film even though the nearly three-hour length of the film doesn’t do it any favours. The non-linear screenplay doesn’t let you get immersed in any one character’s story. Just when you are feeling terrible for what happened to Pushkar and his family, Krishna’s quest to find the truth about his family’s massacre takes over and you immediately switch to present-day. Krishna’s journey and the story of finding the truth about what happened to his family needed more conviction and clarity.”

Several states have made The Kashmir Files tax-free, including Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, and Goa. The Madhya Pradesh government has said policemen in the state will be provided leave to watch the film, as per news agency PTI.

Recently speaking with news agency ANI, Anupam had said, “Kashmir Files is not just a film for me, it is a wound for me that has not been filled in life for years and it might never be filled. The kind of lives my relatives, friends have lived 32 years back, when they were thrown out from their houses, environment, jobs, city, and villages. Later their tragedy was not acknowledged by the people in the country. I was representing all those 5 lakh people whose exodus took place on January 19, 1990.”
