Street Fighter 6: Capcom Aims to Sell 10 Million Copies of the Upcoming Fighting Game

The next month sees the arrival of Street Fighter 6, the long-awaited instalment of the iconic fighting franchise.

The new title from Capcom is considered to be the series’ biggest entry yet, and it’s already touted to be an esports favourite, as seen by the reception towards the game from Evo fans.

Players are expecting huge numbers when it comes to sales. However, on the developer side of things, Capcom feels much more bullish about the game’s performance than anyone else.

In a recent chat with Famitsu (via PC Gamer), Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto talked about going big with Street Fighter 6. He noted that since Street Fighter is Capcom’s flagship title, the Japanese video game company had no hesitation to invest in it.

Tsujimoto pointed out that over the years, some of Capcom’s most popular franchises have sold well. This includes titles from franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, which have sold over 10 million copies.

When it comes to the Street Fighter series, its highest-selling instalment is Street Fighter V, which sold over 7 million in its lifetime following its release in 2016. While many expect the upcoming Street Fighter title to cross that barrier, Tsujimoto believes that it can even cross lifetime sales of 10 million units.

Despite having success with selling over 10 million copies of games in the Monster Hunter and Resident Evil series, it’s hard for many to comprehend a fighting game like Street Fighter 6 to sell over 10 million copies. Outside of the Mortal Kombat and Super Smash Bros. series, only Tekken 7 has managed to overcome the 10 million sales barrier.

With the game set to arrive on June 2, it will be interesting to see if Street Fighter 6 can find enough momentum to hit that elusive sales target.
