Stock market update: Power stocks up as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Wednesday’s session.

DPSC(up 10.96%), K.P.I. Global Infras(up 4.99%), Energy Development Company(up 4.98%), Orient Green Power Company(up 4.55%), Jaiprakash Power Ventures(up 3.41%), Torrent Power(up 2.81%), NLC India(up 2.58%), NTL(up 2.27%), NTPC(up 1.39%) and PTC India(up 1.34%) stood among the top gainers.

PIGL(down 4.94%), Indowind Energy(down 4.78%), Karma Energy(down 4.73%), Jyoti Structures(down 3.90%), Voltamp Transformers(down 2.17%), ABBPP&SLTD(down 1.68%), Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(down 1.58%), KEC International(down 1.39%), RTNPOWER(down 1.32%) and Kalpataru Power Transmission(down 1.17%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 88.3 points down at 17415.05, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 323.34 points at 58340.99.

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(up 4.63%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(up 4.6%), Coal India(up 1.86%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation(up 1.45%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(up 1.44%), NTPC(up 1.39%), Indian Oil Corporation(up 1.15%), ICICI Bank(up 1.11%), SBI Life(up 0.89%) and Bajaj Finance(up 0.89%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, TATA CONSUMER PRODUCTS(down 2.68%), Eicher Motors(down 2.39%), Infosys(down 2.35%), Maruti Suzuki(down 2.35%), Grasim Industries(down 2.04%), Cipla(down 1.88%), Divis Laboratories(down 1.69%), ITC(down 1.68%), Reliance Industries(down 1.44%) and Tech Mahindra(down 1.44%) closed in the red.
