Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Reveals Its Spider-Punk Voice, And It’s Daniel Kaluuya

Daniel Kaluuya is donning a pair of web slingers and joining the voice cast for Spider-Verse for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Kaluuya, revered for his work in films like Get Out and Black Panther, will voice Spider-Punk in the film. Spider-Punk, who’s real name is Hobart “Hobie” Brown, first appeared in Marvel comics in 2015. He is a homeless teenager who becomes a hero to the citizens of New York in his own universe, sporting the same powers as Peter Parker but with a deep affinity for punk rock.

Much like the Peter Parker we all know and love, Brown was bitten by a radioactive spider, granting him an arsenal of super powers. Brown thus became the punk-rock Spider-Man, leading the people of New York against Norman Osborn’s V.E.N.O.M. troops with his guitar in hand.

Kaluuya, for his part, found fame in the MCU’s Black Panther, but did not return for the sequel. Spider-Punk has been leaked through merchandise for months now, but not Kaluuya’s role as the voice.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the highly anticipated sequel to Sony’s 2018 Academy Award winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The new film follows Morales’ Spider-Man once again as he joins forces with Gwen Stacy to face off with a new, more powerful villain.

The film will feature a whole gang of Spider-People, including characters voiced by returning cast members Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez and Greta Lee. Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Joma Taccone, Shea Whigham and Jason Schwartzman are also joining the film as newcomers to the series.

The film, which is set to hit theaters in June 2, 2023, is directed by Justin K. Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers. Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Christina Steinberg are producing.
