‘So stressed’: Dress boutique collapse leaves brides scrambling

Before Christmas, the couple ordered a Love Honor brand dress from The Bridal Atelier for their July wedding, and were urged to pay half the $2000 cost immediately.

After the dress was delayed several times, Mason began asking questions of The Bridal Atelier staff, but after receiving inconsistent responses, she went directly to Love Honor.

Just when the couple was about to give up and find a new dress, they learnt their gown had been ready at Love Honor since April, but The Bridal Atelier had not passed on the payment, meaning the dress could not be released for pick-up.

Mason and her partner decided to pay Love Honor the remaining $1000 again to get the dress, meaning they are still $1000 out of pocket to The Bridal Atelier. But, she says it could be far worse, having heard about brides who have “paid $6000 and got nothing”.

“We’ve been so stressed,” Mason said. “My partner has been so excited about this – now we have to get the alterations done in a timeframe no seamstress is comfortable with. Now with every [wedding] operator, I am [saying], ‘Please turn up’. I am so uncertain, I am angry.

“We’ve got the happy ending but there are a lot of girls … I don’t know what position they are in now.”

Love Honor Bridal director Ingrid Olic said at least 30 brides had been in touch with her about orders placed with The Bridal Atelier. She said she’s confident Love Honor can rush to finish all dresses in time for the brides’ big days.

“We’re calling on our all manpower to make that happen,” she said.

Bridal brand Anna Campbell also made a call-out to customers on social media, asking them to get in contact if they had recently made an order for an Anna Campbell dress through The Bridal Atelier.

“We have deep empathy for these brides and are working diligently to understand how we can help each bride,” company director Anna Thompson said.

The Bridal Atelier was owned by fashion entrepreneur Erin Juchima. The company’s social media accounts and website are no longer online, but archives of the website from earlier in 2023 outline the company’s focus on international bridal designers and providing comprehensive dress fitting services.

“At the forefront of our signature offering is a tailored dress shopping experience that is inviting and filled with dresses that feel effortlessly like something you’d actually wear,” the company said on its website.
