Samrat Prithviraj box office day 4: Akshay Kumar’s film sees sharp decline on first Monday; collects ₹5 crore

Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar-starrer Samrat Prithviraj registered a sharp drop at the box office on its first Monday. The period drama had recorded some growth over the weekend, but saw lukewarm collections on Monday. Directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film stars Akshay in the titular role of the 12th-century king Prithviraj Chauhan. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the latest box office figures of the film on Tuesday, noting that the film performed below expectations on its fourth day. He tweeted, “#SamratPrithviraj has a sharp decline on Day 4 [Mon]… Should’ve scored in double digits or thereabouts to make up for unsatisfactory biz on Day 1 and 2… Biz at national chains remains dull… Fri 10.70 cr, Sat 12.60 cr, Sun 16.10 cr, Mon 5 cr. Total: 44.40 cr. #India biz.”

Taran Adarsh shares Samrat Prithviraj’s box office numbers.

The film’s collections dropped 55% as compared to Sunday, a substantial number. According to a report in BoxOfficeIndia.com, “The hold is simply not good enough as the film needed to be dropping around 30% for a chance to do good business in the final run.” However, trade sources estimate the film sjould be able to recover its costs based on these numbers and other sources like satellite and digital rights.

Samrat Prithviraj, originally titled Prithiviraj, revolves around The First Battle of Tarain between the king Prithviraj Chauhan and Muhammad Ghori of the Ghurid dynasty, and his romance with Sanyogita. Miss World 2017 Manushi Chillar, who played Sanyogita, marked her Bollywood debut with the film.

The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Manav Vij, and Ashutosh Rana among others. Sonu Sood, who plays Chand Bardai, had told Hindustan Times about the film’s poor box office collections, “It might not have got as much business as expected, but we have to accept that things are a bit different after the pandemic.”
