Rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Won’t Be Exclusive To PlayStation, Report Says

Konami is reportedly working on a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and a new report claims this title will not be exclusive to PlayStation as had been rumored.

Insider Gaming reported this, citing unnamed sources. The game will reportedly release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. An announcement of the game is expected at the PlayStation Showcase event on May 24, but nothing is certain.

If the Snake Eater remake is real and not exclusive to PlayStation, it could still have a close connection to Sony’s console through marketing rights or DLC. Activision’s Call of Duty series is not exclusive to any platform, but Sony pays Activision for timed-exclusive content and other perks. But as of yet, there is no reason to believe the rumored Snake Eater remake–again, which remains unofficial and unannounced–is connected in any way to PlayStation.

VGC was first to report that a Snake Eater remake is in development and is being made by Virtuos, which developed the updated version of The Outer Worlds. That game’s launch was marred by issues.

In addition to the rumored Snake Eater remake, Konami is said to be working on a new Castelvania title. GameSpot has contacted Konami in an attempt to get more details.

This week’s PlayStation Showcase takes place on Wednesday, May 24, starting at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. It’s expected to run for “a bit over an hour,” and focus on PS5 and PS VR 2 titles. GameSpot will bring you all the big news from the show as it unfolds.

E3 has been canceled, but there are more summertime gaming shows coming up, including the Xbox Games Showcase and Ubisoft Forward in June. Reports and rumors have potentially revealed some of the announcements early, so be sure to read GameSpot’s rumor roundup to get the latest information.
