reels: Instagram may let users record 90-second long Reels – Times of India

Instagram Reels is one of the most popular features of the Meta-owned platform. It was first launched in 2020 and since then Instagram has been introducing features that enhance the user experience. It looks like another feature may be in the world.
According to app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, Instagram could soon bring the option to record 90 second Reels. Presently, Instagram gives users the option to record 15-second, 30-second and 60-second long Reels. Paluzzi spotted an option for 90 seconds in the Reels editing tools. Interestingly, TikTok already has a similar feature. In fact, TikTok gives its users an option to record 3-minute videos. It won’t be the first time Instagram gets a feature onboard which was first launched by TikTok.
When Instagram Reels were launched, the short videos were just 15 seconds long. However, soon that time limit was doubled but in 2021 Reels can be over 60-seconds long. TikTok earlier had a 1-minute time limit but it raised to 3 minutes in 2021 — something that Instagram also did.
Instagram has been making a conscious effort to move more towards being a video platform. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, last year said that “We’re no longer a photo-sharing app or a square photo-sharing app.”
Mosseri also said that Instagram faces big competition for eyeballs. “Let’s be honest, there’s some really serious competition right now,” he said. “TikTok is huge, YouTube is even bigger, and there are lots of other upstarts as well.”
He further said that people look to Instagram to be entertained. “We have to embrace that, and that means change.”
As for the 90-second Reels option, Instagram hasn’t mentioned it anywhere and it could be in the beta stage. However, considering the popularity of Reels, it won’t be a surprise to see this feature being rolled out.
