Netflix never released Record of Ragnarok in India
The anime never made it to India when it released in June last year, despite being listed on Netflix before release. The show’s link leads to a page which says the title isn’t available in the country.
This is due to the controversy the anime found itself in after featuring the Hindu god, Lord Shiva. In October 2020, Rajan Zed, the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, released a statement on Record of Ragnarok on its “inappropriate” reimagining:
Zed also urged Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Reed Hastings to not release the show in India, and looks like it has worked so far. There is still a chance of the show getting mired in controversy all over again as the second season still features the same characters.
