qualcomm: Here’s when Qualcomm’s answer to Apple’s M1 processor will arrive – Times of India

Qualcomm’s processors are found across smartphones but when it comes to laptops, the chip giant isn’t as dominant. However, a new report has revealed that Qualcomm will launch its high-end processor for laptops soon. In an interview with Tom’s Hardware, Qualcomm CEO Christian Amron revealed that its high-end processors for laptops will arrive in 2023. Earlier, Qualcomm had suggested that the processors could launch sometime in August 2022 but that seems to have been delayed.
Amron in the company’s quarterly earnings call said that progress is being made on Arm processors and Nuvia-powered Windows laptops could reach customers by late 2023.
The processor will rival Apple’s M1 processors that are found across Mac devices. Last year in November, Qualcomm officially announced its plans for Arm-based chipsets. The company had then said that the processors will “set the performance benchmark for Windows PCs”.
The processors, as per reports, are being developed by Nuvia, a chip startup that was founded by ex-Apple chip designers, who were part of the development team of A-series processors.
Apple’s M1 processors have seemingly done quite well. The first M1 processor arrived in November 2020 and since then Apple has introduced faster and better variants of it. The M1 processors now power every Mac computer — MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini — and is also present in the iPad Air as well as the iPad Pro.
Rumours have been rife about Apple launching the next generation of M-series processors. Qualcomm’s Nuvia-based processors do seem to be a bit delayed and it will be interesting to see how the processors fare as Apple is expected to further improve its M-series of processors. Currently, Windows laptops are primarily powered by Intel and AMD processors. Both Intel and AMD have been working to make significant improvements to its processors after Apple’s M-series of processors arrive.
