PS5 Price Cut Coming Soon For A Limited Time, Report Says

It looks like the PlayStation 5 is getting a temporary price cut. Internet super sleuth Billbil-Kun (via VGC), who has a good track record with reporting on unannounced things, said the PS5 will soon become cheaper in multiple major markets around the world.

In the US, the PS5 will reportedly see a temporary price of $50, bringing the standard disc-based system down from $500 to $450. In Germany, there is said to be a €75 price drop, bringing the system down to €480, and in Great Britain, the system is supposedly getting a price cut to £405 (down from £480).

The price drop will be effective at PlayStation Direct, as well as local retailers, the report said. It’s not immediately clear when the price cut might go into effect, if it is indeed real. GameSpot has contacted PlayStation in an attempt to get more details.

This wouldn’t be all that surprising, as Sony already offered an official (temporary) price cut on the PS5 God of War Ragnarok bundle earlier this year. Whether or not a price cut, temporary or otherwise, is planned for the all-digital PS5 model or any bundles remains to be seen.

Sony officially raised the price of the PS5 in 2022 in a number of countries around the world (but not the US) in response to global economic conditions. More recently, Microsoft announced a price increase for the Xbox Series X in parts of the world, but again, not in the US.

In other PlayStation news, the big PlayStation Store Summer Sale is going on now, offering deals on thousands of PS5 and PS4 games.
