The latest firmware update on PS3 has reportedly prevented users from downloading their already purchased games from the PlayStation Store. This includes both PS3 and Vita content.
The issue came to light over on Reddit and ResetEra (thanks, Jordan). The message “An error occurred during the install operation – (80029509)” pops up when users try to download purchased games from the PSN store. However, some users are saying that downloads will eventually go through as it just takes multiple attempts to re-download.
On February 28, Sony released a new firmware update for PS3, version 4.90. Its main purpose was to improve system performance but it seems like the update caused more issues. Back in 2021, Sony announced that it would shut down the PS3, Vita, and PSP digital storefronts, but partially walked that decision back after fan backlash. The PS3 and Vita stores remain online to this day, but the PSP store was closed as planned.
Older digital storefronts are starting to close. Nintendo is shutting down the Wii U and 3DS eShop permanently later this month, and Microsoft was rumored to close the Xbox 360 marketplace in May but confirmed that it was an error.
