While the PlayStation 5 made some significant breakthroughs with the hardware, fans were quite disappointed with one aspect of the console, and that is backward compatibility. Rumors had pretty much confirmed that we would be getting backward compatibility in the PS5, but it didn’t turn out to be reality. However, recent developments made people believe that we might be seeing it soon enough.

PS3 Games Appearing On PS5 Is A Bug And Not Backwards Compatibility

Recently, a rumor has been making rounds on the internet, stating that PS3 games are now appearing on the PS5 store, which is making many people believe that this means that we will be getting backward compatibility on the console. Games like Dead Or Alive 5, Prince of Persia Sands of Time, and Prince of Persia The Two Thrones. While players are unable to purchase the games, this looked quite believable.

However, in reality, this is far from the case. This is a bug which we have witnessed quite a number of times ourselves, so this shouldn’t be given any weight at all. Now fans even went on to say that if it is just a bug, then it shouldn’t be displaying the prices. Well, this has been clarified by Twitter user Ryan Biniecki who highlights that the prices are just being pulled from PS Now, and are not anything specific for the console itself.

While this doesn’t rule out the possibility of backward compatibility, it should be noted that backward compatibility on a hardware level is not possible, which is made pretty evident by the recent patent. If anything, we are going to get a software solution, in which the game will not be running on PS5 locally. Unless of course, Sony pulls off a miracle.
