The new centre will help leprosy patients suffering from grade two deformities in pre- and post-surgery care. The centre will be on the third floor of the building in the leprosy section.
Now, the patients are required to visit the health department’s dedicated centres in Sanawad in Khargone district to avail these services. District leprosy officer Dr Madhav Hasani told TOI, “We have identified space for the physiotherapy centre for leprosy patients and work for cleaning and setting up of the space is underway.” “The centre will begin very soon in the district”, said Dr Hasani.
The leprosy patients suffering from grade two deformities require this care more than others and they have very less share in it, showed the figures.
The authorities in the last month detected 89 new cases of leprosy but only one was found suffering with grade two deformities.
There are over 180 cases detected so far in the current fiscal year (2022-23) in the district, when authorities have a target of finding around 1000 cases this financial year.
Similarly, only eight leprosy patients with grade two deformities were found in the last two financial years i.e. 2020-21, 2019-20 for 1025 leprosy cases cumulatively detected.
