PET-CT machine to be installed in AIIMS Bhubaneswar – ET HealthWorld

PET-CT machine to be installed in AIIMS BhubaneswarBHUBANESWAR: The AIIMS Bhubaneswar will install (positron emission tomography-computer tomography) PET-CT Scan, a high-end testing machine, within next two to three months. This machine will be helpful for diagnosis of mostly cancer patients.

The institute has already placed a purchase order for procurement of the machine during March this year. A total of Rs 18 crore will be spent for this project, said Sachidananda Mohanty, medical superintendent of AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

“Various works for its installation and commissioning got delayed due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Now the agency has already started the civil works and other works for installation and commissioning. The installation is expected to be completed within the next two months at the basement area of the hospital,” said the medical superintendent.

He said AIIMS Bhubaneswar will be the first public hospital in the state to install the PET-CT. This machine will help in the treatment of cancer patients and other critical surgical cases. It will benefit many poor and needy patients of Odisha, he added.

This machine is very costly and patients pay a heavy amount for diagnosis in private hospitals. After commissioning of this machine at this national institute, poor patients will get free diagnosis facility and others can avail this by paying nominal charges.

The hospital is planning to install more such machines in the coming days for improving cancer patient care services.

In 2018, the institute had initially planned to install a PET-CT Scan machine in the hospital to help the needy patients of the state.
