Times Higher Education’s rankings are arguably the world’s most prestigious and widely referenced university league tables, and the Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Times Higher Education (THE) had started its impact ranking three years ago based on the university’s achievements on the indicators of research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai a pioneer institute of industrial engineering and management in the nation with sustainable development as an integral and significant part in its education and research. NITIE has been ranked at 68th in the world by THE Impact Ranking in 2021, and 3rd in India in SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth with a score of 71.6 (the highest score being 84.3) out of 100. This goal measures the university’s economics research, its employment practices, and the share of students taking work placement. This achievement reflects NITIE’s contributions towards the sustainable economic growth of the nation, preparing highly skilled professionals to improve productivity and decent work for all. NITIE has scored almost 100 per cent on the parameters like expenditure per employees and percentage of students in work placement.

“We are delighted that NITIE has ranked #68 in the Times Higher Education’s Impact Ranking 2021 on Sustainability Development Goals (SDG)-8. To feature in the top 100 among near 1200 universities from 94 countries is commendable indeed. It is especially heartening to note that NITIE figures in the top #3 among Indian universities in this table. Director Manoj Tiwari and his team are doing a tremendous job with NITIE and this recognition is a reflection of the strides that the institution has made,” said Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman – Board of Governors, NITIE, and Chairman of Allcargo Logistics.

NITIE also scored well in SDG 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation and particularly in water usage and care parameter and ranked in 201-300, SDG 1 on No Poverty (301-400), and SDG 17 on Partnership for the SDG Goals (601-800).

“NITIE is committed to performing even better in the coming years on these sustainable development goals which are an integral part of our curriculum, research and training. NITIE’s contributions in the productivity improvement in the industry are well established and now we are even gearing up further in other/social sectors such as agriculture, health, water, climate change and education,” said Dr Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Director, NITIE, Mumbai.
