F. Murray Abraham’s sudden exit from Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest was apparently due to allegations of sexual misconduct, according to a new report in Rolling Stone today.
Last April, Mythic Quest producer Lionsgate said Abraham would not be returning for the show’s third season, but provided little explanation and simply stated at the time that “we do not comment on matters concerning personnel.” It was a surprising move considering Abraham played key character C.W. Longbottom, the writer of the video game at the center of Mythic Quest.
Now, Rolling Stone reports that Abraham was booted from the series after “at least two concerns” were raised about his behavior, and he was told to stay away from some of the actresses. After the second incident was brought up to Mythic Quest creator and star Rob McElhenney, Abraham was reportedly fired from the series.
IGN has reached out to Apple TV+ and Abraham’s reps for comment. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Lionsgate said, “As a matter of corporate policy, we do not discuss our personnel actions.”
Mystic Quest continues onward
Mythic Quest has continued to air with Abraham’s character written off, with Season 3 having premiered late last year. Speaking to IGN in January, McElhenney and the producers discussed Longbottom’s absence without acknowledging the behind-the-scenes happenings.
“Yeah, it’s a bummer to not have Murray in this season,” McElhenney said at the time. “But we recognize that C.W. is a beloved character and obviously a huge part of the show, so we made sure that we have a really fitting tribute to him.”
Abraham has also recently appeared in the second season of hit HBO miniseries The White Lotus, as well as Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix anthology Cabinet of Curiosities.
