Let’s face it: most people have too many passwords to remember. There’s email, banking, shopping, food ordering — you name it and you have to remember a password for it. A passwordless — yet safe and secure — the world is what is needed and Microsoft has taken a step in that direction. The US-based tech giant has announced that if you have a Microsoft account then you won’t need a password. We explain how it works:
Can you really do without a password?
Yes, you can but you will have to remove your password. Microsoft has passwordless solutions like Windows, Hello, Microsoft Authenticator App, SMS or Email codes, and physical security keys to keep your account secure.
What do you need to go passwordless?
For starters, a Microsoft account. Then before removing your password, you’ll need to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app. The Microsoft Authenticator app is available on the App Store and Play Store. Microsoft also says that before downloading the app and going passwordless, all your devices should have the latest software updates.
What to do after you have removed your passwords?
There are certain steps that Microsoft has outlined.

Can you add a password back to your account?
Yes, if you aren’t comfortable with not having a password then there’s an option to go back. Simply follow the steps below:

Will a passwordless account work with all apps and services?
No, it won’t. Older versions of Windows, Mac, apps and services will still need a password. These include Xbox 360; Office 2010 or earlier; Office for Mac 2011 or earlier; Products and services which use IMAP and POP email services; and Windows 8.1, Windows 7 or earlier.
