Metaverse App ‘Loka’ of Shark Tank India Fame, at Risk of Copyright Infringement

Shark Tank India featured a pitch last year from the metaverse app ‘Loka’. The app features copied versions of various pop culture and gaming characters in it, which could lead to a copyright infringement lawsuit. The app allegedly features rip-off versions of DC’s Superman and Harley Quinn, BGMI characters, Valorant’s Reyna, Harry Potter, and many others.

This is a concerning situation, highlighted by AFK Gaming, it raises questions about copyright infringement and what actions, if any, are taken against the company. Loka was pitched by its found Krishnan Sunderarajan in Shark Tank India where he walked out with a deal. Back then, Aman Gupta, co-founder of boAt Lifestyle said, “We are taking a bet with you even though you don’t have a business yet. I hope you establish it because we worked hard for our money.” Loka had a successful presentation at the show as its founder secured an investment of Rs 40 lakhs for 24% equity from judges Peyush Bansal, Anupam Mittal and Aman Gupta. Loka founder walked in on the show, initially asking for the same amount but for 5% equity.
