Kolkata hospital brings in cutting edge robotics for knee surgery – ET HealthWorld

Kolkata: One of the oldest private hospitals in Kolkata has introduced Cuvis Active robotic knee replacement surgery, a technique that offers sub-millimeteric precision for joint replacement surgeries. This surgical approach is minimally invasive and bone cuts are very smooth. Cuvis minimizes tissue injury, decreases blood loss and post-operative pain significantly. There is almost no chance of infection from this surgery because of minimal human intervention.

“The Active Automatic Robotic joint replacement unit at Belle Vue Clinic, under the leadership of Dr Santosh Kumar, has pioneered the Orthopilot Navigation system for knee replacement, in 2013. The present system is a generational improvement over Orthopilot as the Cuvis Joint Robotic System is the most advanced surgical cutting edge robotic technology, supporting surgeons with personalized planning and precise cutting for predictable and consistent results,” said Pradeep Tondon, CEO Belle Vue Clinic.

Todon added that the robotic joint replacement team in the hospital comprises orthopaedic surgeons – Devasis Sarangi, Vivek David, Deep Chakraborty and Vivekananda Kumar along with Dr Kumar.

According to Dr Kumar Cuvis Active Robotic System is better than passive robotic surgery with various advantages including higher safety, quicker recovery, pre-operative planning etc.

“This system ensures ensures zero human and manual errors by its real time monitoring and feedback mechanisms, it ensures sub-millimeteric precision whereas human eyes cannot distinguish two points closer than a millimeter, customized alignment with ultra-high precision,” said Dr Kumar.
